Bone as Britain's first official war artist in May 1916. Commissioned as an honorary Second Lieutenant, he arrived in France during the Battle of the Somme, serving with the Allied forces on the Western Front and also with the Royal Navy for a time. He produced 150 drawings of the war, returning to England in October of that year. Over the next few months Bone returned to his earlier subject matter, drawing pictures of shipyards and battleships. He visited France again in 1917 where he took particular interest in the ruined towns and villages.

The Art Journal, published in London, was the most important Victorian journal on art. It was founded in 1839 by Hodgson & Graves, print publishers, 6 Pall Mall with the title the Art Union Monthly Journal, the first issue, 750 copies, appearing 15 February 1839. The Art Journal became notable for its honest portrayal of fine arts, and its opposition to fake and misattributed Old Masters.

Bassett-Lowke was a toy company in Northampton, England, founded by Wenman Joseph Bassett-Lowke in 1898 or 1899, that specialized in model railways, boats and ships, and construction sets. Bassett-Lowke started as a mail-order business, although it designed and manufactured some items.

Augsbourg. Page Size, 16 1/2 x 23ins. 2 Very fine original engraved mezzotint prints after Johann Eleazar Schenau, slight creasing and marks to the outer margins. £175.00

Claude Duflos was an engraver and etcher: He made prints after most contemporary painters. His total works numbed more than 300 pieces, a third of which are portraits. He was a pupil of Jean-Francis de Troy at the Academy de France in Rome. Mezzotint works by roughening the copper plate with thousands of little dots made by a metal tool with small teeth, called a "rocker." In printing, the tiny pits in the copper plate hold the ink when the face of the plate is wiped clean. A high level of quality and richness in the print can be achieved.

Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, 1st Baronet 1833 – 1898) was an English artist and designer closely associated with the later phase of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. In addition to painting and stained glass, Burne-Jones worked in a variety of crafts; including designing ceramic tiles, jewellery, tapestries, and illustration, most famously designing woodcuts for the Kelmscott Press's Chaucer in 1896.

Walter Crane 1845 – 1915, was an English artist and book illustrator. He, along with Randolph Caldecott and Kate Greenaway, are considered the strongest contributors to the child's nursery motif that the genre of English children's illustrated literature.

The idea of the house as a total work of art, with all of the interior objects designed by the architect, emerged from this studio and remained standard practice throughout the Arts and Crafts movement.

London. Dates 1727, 1st edition. Print page size 18 x 11 ins. Image size 14 x 7 1/2 ins. Pp, Title page. The brothers, Samuel and Nathaniel Buck drew and engraved a series of etched panoramas and views of British towns, castles and abbeys etc. Each engraving describes below the image, the history of the castles, from Norman times to the early 18th century, including the numerous changes of ownership. Most prints show a dedication and coat of arms. Each print numbered from 1 to 10 in the left hand blank margin, signifying that they are the 1st edition, not the later 18th Century or early 19th Century reprints. Very good impression and condition. No Covers. Rare Copy. £750.00
